Responsibilities

The IT Infrastructure Services Department is responsible for:

  • WiFi Coverage Enhancement
  • Network setup for new Appliances in Data Center
  • Network Cabling in Data Center
  • Static IP Reservations
  • Network Cabling
  • Internet Access for Guest Users
  • New Network Setup

Units

The IT Infrastructure Services Department has three units:

  • Telecommunications

    Our goal is not only to enable the effective communication between the employees and students of the organization by providing the state of art Desktop telephony and Digital Mobile Radio (DMR) service but also to contribute in making the whole campus is safe and secure by managing and maintaining the Fire Alarm and Protection, Video Surveillance (CCTV), Physical Access Control, Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) services.

    By introducing the Digital IDs we are targeting to achieve the Mobile Campus and Digital Transformation objectives.

    By providing the broadcasting service like Digital Signage and CATV services, we aim to keep the community informed and up to date with the latest activities and announcements on campus. 

  • Operations & Engineering Unit

    The Operations & Engineering unit is responsible for the day-to-day management of the IT infrastructure. This includes tasks such as:

    • Monitoring the health of the infrastructure and responding to any incidents
    • Provisioning and deprovisioning resources
    • Patching and updating software
    • Managing backups and disaster recovery
    • Optimizing performance
    • Ensuring compliance with regulations

    The Operations unit plays a critical role in the day-to-day management of the IT infrastructure. By ensuring that the infrastructure is healthy, secure, and available, the Operations unit helps to protect the organization's data and systems.

  • Network unit

    The University's network services are monitored and managed by the NETS unit, which is also in charge of all networking tasks like installing network cabling and deploying network infrastructure. Internet and intranet services are offered to the KFUPM community through the network department. Wired and wireless networking are provided as part of the services for all academic, administrative, and dorm facilities. In addition, it is in charge of setting up the proper access controls for network devices in order to secure KFUPM's IT infrastructure from threats both internal and external, as well as monitoring and managing all network devices, including routers, switches, access points, packet shapers, load balancers, and Infoblox appliances for DNS services. The NETS department also provides and maintains Internet and intranet services for distant locations, including Dammam Community College, the KFUPM Beach, and the SCITECH facility.
